چکیده

Frequent pulmonary exacerbations of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) reduce survival and quality life even among patients receiving highly effective modulator therapy suggesting the need for better treatments. Our primary objective was to discern whether antibiotics matched with bacterial culture susceptibilities meeting minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)-based target serum levels improve exacerbation treatment outcomes. MIC directed antibiotic dose selection optimization is standard practice at our center. A retrospective chart review conducted from 2010–2015, 2 year follow up, evaluating CF admitted a exacerbation. We used Kaplan-Meier statistics Cox proportional hazards modeling evaluate time next randomly selected adult inpatients who had pre-admission sputum cultures data prior admission. Treatment included intravenous (IV) nearly all continuous infusion β-lactam most daily IV aminoglycoside. dosed based on individual verified dosing decisions therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). 99 met inclusion exclusion criteria. plots showed that targeting aminoglycoside area under curve (AUC) values were associated lengthened median by 80 [HR = 0.55, 95% CI (0.33–0.90)] 185 days 0.42, (0.24–0.74)] respectively. However, achieving both extended 414 0.23, (0.10–0.53)]. Highly did not change results. Dual successful TDM prolongs This strategy applies people regardless eligibility status or access.

Antibiotic Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common bacteria colonized in CF patients. Growing resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics now a day is a challenge of controlling infection in CF patient. In this study colonization of CF patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antibiotic suscep...

Outcome of Cystic Fibrosis in Patients with Bronchiectasis

Introduction: Bronchiectasis is a common problem in children especially under 5 years. Early diagnosis of disease and its causes could be useful in early treatment and preventing probable complications. This study aimed at evaluating the cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients with  bronchiectasis. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 374 children with bronchiectasis were studied. The diagnosis was ma...

Maintaining Respiratory Health in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system, however, it also affects a number of other organs and systems. More than 90% of mortality of  CF patients is due to lung complications.  Healthy lungs are important for a long life for people with CF, We will discuss two important topics for maintaining respiratory health. Chronic use of drug...

Macrolide antibiotic therapy in patients with cystic fibrosis.

This summary of the current knowledge of macrolide therapy serves as an example of recent progress in the therapeutic approach to treating patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The benefit of macrolides in the treatment of patients with diffuse panbronchiolitis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, as seen in Japan, was the rational behind trials in patients with CF. Thus far, the majority of re...

Sweat chloride concentration in cystic fibrosis patients with cystic fibrosis trans-membrane conductance regulator 11234V mutation.

C fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common inherited diseases in Caucasian people. It is caused by mutations in both the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene that encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein.1 One of the main consequences of mutations in the CFTR gene is a dysfunction of ion channels resulting in elevated sweat chloride concentrations, pancreatic insufficiency...
